Default Timing belt replacement ?'s

New to this site, but not to mechanicing. My wife has a S60 2.4NA and it is time actually past time for a timing belt replacement. I went to a couple of local volvo specialist shops to get an idea of what it would cost and they are all reasonable, but I had some questions about their procedures and some questions about the ins and outs of timiing belts on volvos.

First, this is the first timing belt replacement, the shop I went to said to definitely not change the waterpump even though I asked for an estimate including it?

Second, I have read several places that people don't use cam locking tools when changing the belt?? How is that possible? I have changed a lot of timing belts and I havent ever had one where I didn't have to lock the cams?

Where do you guys get your cam locking tools if you use them? I shouldn't have to replace any seals while I am in there correct?

Is the Haynes manual adequate for timing belt replacement?

Thanks for the help all.

Dave

Here is a link to 2 Vids on someone replacing a Timing belt on a S60 R not the exact same car but i believe the belt replacement is the same. As for the water pump i just did my TB and did replace the water-pump .The reason i decided to do it was $$ . The labor was no more and the part cost me $75.00 .No need to have to pull the hole thing apart and pay again if the WP does fail in the next 100,000 miles.I dont care what Volvo say i find it hard to believe that any water pump will last 200,000 miles or until i have to have the 2nd TB replacement done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVpHxltpOjY

I found that video today, and it made me feel a whole lot better about doing it myself. I think I will probably change the waterpump just to be safe

I did mine on my own and didnt need any cam locking tools. Wont say it wouldnt have been easier with it, but deff not needed.

This car is probably the easiest timing belt replacement I have done next to Hondas. If you are mechanically inclined, do it yourself. Cost me $130 with all the parts.

Also I didnt do the waterpump. If the dealers even tell you not to do it, it should be a sign they dont go bad often. Its a gamble I was willing to take, but not all feel the same.

I did my timing belt with out changing the water pump at 110,000 miles two years ago. It was a 2001 s60 T5. I did replace the idler and tensioner. I just traded it in with 193,000 miles for a 2002 s60 2.4 with 93,000 miles. No issues with water pump.
getting ready to do the "new" car this weekend about a 2hr. job pretty straight forward.
