Default 2004 S60 with HID bulbs

My S60 AWD with factory HID lights is telling me that the low beam is out on the drivers side. When turning the car on the low beam trys to ignite and it flickers then goes out. Is this a bad bulb or something else? The bulbs aren't cheap and I want to make sure it is a bad bulb before ordering the replacement. It looks like I will have to remove the air filter and the housing to reach the bulb. Do I just pull out the housing? I don't want to brake the plastic clips.

It could be a bad bulb or worse, a bad ballast. If it is the ballast, well, lets hope it is not the ballast.

how old are the bulbs ? The cover for the low beams are like you said in side corner of the light. You need to turn the cover 1/2 of a turn and it will open. No need to remove Air box.Just make sure DONT TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR FINGERS.Old or New when or if you have to replace it. The oil from your hands will Kill it for sure. Just reseat it and see if that help. Most times when the bulb goes that it . No flicker its just burns out.
