2004 S60 T5 Transmission will not engage
My sons 2004 Volvo S60 T5 with 180k miles has transmission issues. Shifter will shift into all gear positions but will not engage, grinds when you attempt to put in back into park with engine running. Shut car off and put in park, but car still rolls. Error codes P0722 and P0700 come up in code reader.
When in any gear you rev the motor, it seems to labor a bit but will not engage.
Need your guys suggestions on where to start troubleshooting.
Car is worth about $1500 and I don't want to spend several thousand on a new tranny.

The codes are simply telling you that there is no output speed signal even though the vehicle believes that there should be output based upon the gear that you have selected.
The fact that the parking pawl is clanking around when you put it back in park suggests that things are spinning around internally and freewheeling. I'd suspect broken parts.
This transmission can be rebuilt by DIY if you have the patience and a clean work area. There are no specialty tools needed and need to pay attention to a couple of wear areas.
