2004 s60R Suggestions
Hey guys! Just got a 04 s60r and dont know which route to take. maybe if i go thru the whole story of what happen itll help. I bought the car from a guy in charlotte nc on craigslist. You guys may have seen it. He said he was getting on an onramp and the oil pressure light came on so he pulled over. had it towed to an independent shop and they say it had zero oil pressure and spun a main bearing. They left the oil pan off so when i got it i jacked it up and took a look. Now im not the most knoledgable at engine building but i turned the motor over by hand and there were no wierd noises or anything, it spun freely, they put an arrow on one of the rod caps so i pulled that cap and the bearing wasnt spun or anything. it did seem a little more loose than the others tho.. i havent tried putting the pan on and starting it... What would you guys do??

i agree.. but i guess what im wondering is if the shop was lying? Shops will do that so they can buy the car cheap from the owner and make some $$. like i said the owner pulled over immediately after the oil light came on. it never locked up or anything. Would it be worthwhile you think to just check all the rod bearing , replace as needed, and try runnung it? How much you guys think it would run to have the engine rebuilt if i pulled the motor and took it somewhere?

in all honesty I would replace the bearing anyway
just because it's right there and fairly easy
I would replace the oil pump or at least inspect it and make shore its in proper working order
while you're in there replace some things such as the fuel filter and try it out
pop the pan back on fill it up with Castrol FULL SYNTHETIC only 10W30 I would never put regular oil in the car again
and no royal purple if you have a turbo if not then royal might be a good option as it tends to get thinner than other oils and doesn't properly lube the turbo's
