Default 2005 s60 2.5 t

Hi everyone,
I'm looking at a 2005 s60 t2.5. It's uninspected with a check engine light on. It also shakes pretty hard between 45mph and 55mph. Other than that, it's in pretty nice shape for its age and 173,000 miles. The guy selling it works at a local dealership but is selling it independently. We've asked him to get it into the service dept to find out how to fix the shake and the check engine light. Assuming we can negotiate a fair price to get the car with those issues fixed, what more can I expect to get out of this vehicle. Will it make it to 250,000 if well maintained?

Thanks,
Tom

My son bought the same car (2006). What fault codes are displayed? My son bought the car for $800 (asking price was $2,400) with NO check engine light. So far, he spent $2,000 fixing it. The engine had an obvious oil leak(s). He had to replace a leaking power steering pump, fix both camshaft seals and one engine mound and had to replacing timing belt (that was $1,200). Recently, we fixed fault codes P0026 and P0027 - variable valve timing [vvt] solenoids. The previous owner did not maintain the car, so the solenoids were plugged up with sludge and the engine had to be flushed. That was another $850. Now he "only" needs to replace front struts, breaks, and rotors. Oh, and he has the same shimmy you mentioned - we believe that right hand drive shaft. Parts for all that are $500 - we will be doing repairs ourselves. parts are EXPENSIVE, and repairs are also expensive. But the car is fantastic and drives like a sports car, so I suggest buying it, if you get a really good price (like $1,000 or so).

Thanks Bessarion. The seller had the service dept take a look and now says there is to much wrong with it to sell. We was asking $3k. I was thinking it would cost that much to repair.

Probably. Unless you do your own repairs. it is a great car.
