Exclamation 2006 S60 Stuck in Park!

Hello,

I am posting here hoping someone can offer me some advice on troubleshooting my 2006 S60 in Northern Canada. I am not a cheap person so I am not trying to keep money from a dealership or a service shop but I am 260+KM from a Volvo Dealer and with my car being in park I would be looking at a very expensive tow before the issue is even investigated.

My car is currently parked at home and the gear lever will not come out of park. When I depress the brake I can hear a clicking and can feel it in the gear **** (if this helps rule something out). I have tried rocking the car back and forth the best I could (newtons laws arent nice when your driveway is slippery). I have tried moving the steering wheel all the way to the left and all the way to the right with no avail (something noteable is that I can have the vehicle OFF and power the steering wheel.. it is not locking).

Could this be an ice buildup? Is there any way to override the shifter (there is no button like my older volvos)? If so does anyone have any advice or literature I can read on dismantling the gear shifter to clean it up?

I would love to get my car back into commision as my girlfriend is now talking about reliable her DODGE is and how you cant rely on Volvo and I would love to make her eat her words!!

Thanks,

Default stuck shifter

Make a fist and hit it straight down on the top of the shift ****. You may have to do it more than once. My wife's S60 used to do it all the time until the dealer changed out the shift mechanism. I wanted to take it apart to see why it would get stuck but I never was able to get the dash bezel off to remove the center console. I didn't want to break the plastic clips so I let the dealer fix it. I wish I could be more help about the cause but, it usually did it when it was cold.
