Default 2007 S60 aftermarket head unit wiring question

I have a JVC aftermarket head unit.

I got the 6 pin din to RCA adapter because I thought I'd be able to connect it to my amp, but the wire in the dash is an 8 pin din.

I'm not sure what this means. To compensate I wired the speakers individually, and it works, but I've heard that it doesn't utilize the center speaker. It's also very difficult to fit the unit back in the dash (haven't been able to yet).

Is there a better way I can do this? I also seem to have lost the backlight to several of the climate control buttons, not sure why. Thanks for any help.

I'd start by checking the factory connector pin out. One of those wires is to the dash lights which also drives the radio back light. Sounds like you opened up a serial circuit (lol time to sort out the broken bulb on the christmas tree lights?). Regarding the center speaker - that'd be a connection the head unit needs to offer. If your head unit is designed to drive L/R with a fader for F/R, then that's what you get. There are ways of wiring in a center speaker without going to an extra amp or you can wire a extra amp and bridge the two channels : How To - Car Stereo - How To Install A Center Channel offers a nice write up
