Default 2011 S60 D5 - Can I change my HeadUnit with one that has BlueTooth and Navigation?

Hi All,

New owner of a 2011 S60 D5 here.
I've been lurking on the forum for a while, reading and taking notes about the car and all, but I couldn't really find a concise answer for the following question:

Can I change the HeadUnit from my car with another one that has BlueTooth and Navigation? See attched photos of my car's buttons.

As you can see, the buttons for managing calls are not on the steering wheel and the Navigation button is missing from the HeadUnit.
I found this for sale on eBay and I'm considering buying it to see if it can be swapped with mine.
Would also mean I need to change the steering wheel buttons to be able to answer calls. Probably this would work - need to see the exact part number.

The main reason on why I want to do this is to get the following:
1 - BlueTooth
2 - Rear camera
3 - Navigation

Another option would be to pay around £400 for an Android head unit, but I had one of those on my Toyota Rav4 and it was a pain to set up the rearview camera(which was mostly useless anyway).

I would appreciate any help and comments on this.
Thanks!

Yes I'm sure for a few thousand dollars, pounds, euros or so you could refit your car with newer factory stuff. That infotainment system is coded to the VIN of the car - so programming as well as many hardware and wiring changes will be needed. You could put those ebay buttons on your steering wheel - but they will not work without a bunch of hardware and programming that you might not be able to get done anywhere. They will not be plug and play.

Volvo's solution back from their parts catalog is below at the bottom - a Garmin 3790 -

Unfortunately your other choice is something like this Nav with bluetooth. That garmin will perform better (with traffic info also) and be easier to use than the factory installed Nav system. Map updates will be free, unlike Factory systems which tend to have NO updates available after x years. I'm certain you could find something similiar in your part of the world. Sorry - I looked into simply adding factory bluetooth to a 2010. (I've worked on Volvos at my shop for 40 years) I sold the car and bought a 2015 that had it factory installed.

Hi @hoonk

Thank you so much for your comprehensive post.
I think that the Garmin you referenced above is a good compromise, as it also has an option to make calls.
I'll see if there's an updated model that I could use with my car, as this one's at least 10 years old.

Thank you!

HoonK's advice is spot on. I had a 2012 with bluetooth but no navigation or backup camera. It was too expensive to add it to the car. It was like over $2000.00 just to add navigation. I'm glad I passed. I found Google maps on my iPhone easier than the integrated Volvo Nav systems like in our 2011 and 2015 XC60.

Now, I understand you don't have factory installed BlueTooth "PHONE" wireless support, but you do have "MEDIA" via USB. This will give you Streaming music, Navigation commands, and phone audio output through your system with an aftermarket product like Garmin units or your iPhone. The way to access this feature is by connecting your device to the USB port in the center console cubby. Find a good mount for your iphone or Android phone and you're set.
