2012 Volvo S60 T5 burning smell
i bought this car a couple months ago and i love it. it was 170k miles on it but drives really good. but i noticed a burning smell almost like burnt oil but i don't know a lot about cars so i'm not sure... it only smells like that when i accelerate hard or after i get to a pretty fast speed. i suspect it could be my tires but i never hear a screeching or anything and i know it's not my brakes because i'm never braking when the smell happens. is this something i need to need worried about? is it fairly normal? any ideas why it's doing it?
are you consuming any fluids? does the car spot the driveway? I'd look for a small oil leak that can push oil onto the exhaust or turbo housing. If it smells more sweet, then you may be leaking coolant somewhere - hose, heater core etc. I'd start by having a tech put the car on a lift for a safety check - looking around the wheels/brakes/axles, exhaust, hoses etc.
