Cool 2013 S60 - Back-up Camera Install

I opted to buy a year old model rather than get the new model back in April. This meant the available inventory wasn't huge. I settled on package without Navigation and Back-up Camera. Primary reason was there they didn't have the color package that I wanted with the tech. package.

Salesman at Volvo Houston told me that all 2013 volvos were "pre-wired" so that the tech. package could be added at a later date. He added that I should look into after market install because Volvo charges an "arm and leg" for this service.

Fast forward to yesterday... Finally tired of not having the back-up camera, I decided to get a quote from same dealership I purchased from and was quoted $785 for camera, $28 for VIDI software, $600-$800 for installation.

After picking my jaw up from the floor I politely looked at the service man (like he was crazy) and went on about my day. So, $1600 for back-up camera. Yeah, not this guy!!!

So, I had already researched online how much was an OEM camera for the same model, which can be found for less than $300. And if you want non-OEM you can get camera for less than $100; something is not right here.

I youtubed installation of a 'wired' back-up camera and it's not all that bad; if you want to take all trim, seats and carpet out of your car to run the wire and make your connections. The guy on the video said it took him 6 hours, but explained that was because he was shooting the video, but it should take around 4 hours to install the camera by a professional.

So, the video actually helped me understand why the install price was so high if it weren't for the fact that the car is 'pre-wired', which one would infer that you wouldn't have to run the wire and only need to terminate at the camera and possibly the console if its not already done.

Why, Volvo, why!!!!

So, finally to my question, is the existing console in the s60 compatible with after market wireless camera's? If so has anyone installed one?

Has anyone installed any after market back up camera?

Thanks

Default Ugh

Have the same problem. Have a 2012 Volvo s60. LOVE my car. Really want a back-up camera installed but find it hard to spend $1,300 (dealership) on it. There has to be a less expensive way to go about it. The huge screen seems like a tease. Why do less expensive cars come with it installed? Volvo is all about safety and don't understand how this does not come standard.
PLEASE HELP
Thank you!!
