Hello gang! New member based in Chicago. Came here because I figured this would be a knowledgeable group.
I'm the proud owner of a 2015.5 S60, but in the winter climate here I stupidly scraped the lower front bumper of the car pretty badly when parallel parking. I'm not too bothered cosmetically by the damage, because you have to really bend down low to see it, but I'm more concerned about moisture/salt and potential rust from those deep gouges.
It may be a stupid question, but what is the Volvo S60 bumper made out of? Is it plastics? Metal/steel? If it's plastic then I think I probably don't have to worry about rust and save the money and not fix the scratches right away. But if it's steel I probably need to suck it up and fix this as soon as I can.
Modern bumpers have plastic covers with a metal/foam core backing. The painting process requires some additives to keep the paint flexible and the primers need to be able to stick to the plastic. A body shop should be able to clean that up (lol in the spring) without replacing the cover.
