Default R lower bumper repair...

Hey Guys, I know it's hard to find a R lower bumper that is not cracked, torn, etc. The wagon I just purchased has a R bumper that is cracked in the famous 2 spots, the inner 2 braces. The pass side was split 70% and the drivers side was split 50% through.

Well, I took some LocTite Repair Extreme glue to it and it appears to be holding up. I think I purchased the stuff at Wal-Mart about a year or so ago. It's been fixing a lot of broken plastic around the old Volvo shop.
  1. Pulled the crack open and cleaned it with alcohol pads.
  2. Let the cleaned area dry.
  3. Put the glue in the crack.
  4. Braced the bottom of the bumper to put pressure on the cracks to keep them closed. I used 2 x 8's.
  5. Keep the braces in place for 12 hours.
  6. Removed the braces and it appears to be holding well.
I'll post back in 30 days to let you know if it's still holding well. I'll also post pics later.

In the future go to your local Auto Body Paint store and get a bumper repair glue that is made for fixing bumpers. Its a two tube compound epoxy that will bond and can be sanded and painted.

Does that stuff work pretty good? If so, why do so many people drive around with their lower lip busted?

Have you tried plastic welding?
We have done it on cracked motorcycle fairings and it comes out pretty good, some times you cant even tell after you paint it.
