Depends on the engine you have...the 5 cylinder engine Volvo makes is fairly easy to get to, you pop off the plastic "Volvo 20 Valve" cover and you should see your wires which lead to coils over your spark plugs. Generally you unhook the wires from the coils, then unbolt the coils and then pull them off, make sure you label them each when you take them off unless you are replacing the coils as well. From there you can use the special socket for your plugs...I would recommend the IPD spark plugs or OEM Volvo Plugs as they are made by Bosch and come pregapped.

60,000 Mile Service from what my Volvo dealership says to do on my 04 S60R is coolant flush, check brakes, oil change, tranny flush, spark plugs, inspect coils, inspect and tune suspension(AWD models more specifically)....basically the 60,000 mile service for my car will hit me up at about $600, but then again I've done preventive maintenance and with 55k on mine I have flushed the tranny and replaced brake fluid, as well I've already had the coolant flushed so do bits and pieces over time is alot better than doing it all at once.

Hope this answers some of your questions!

How to do the tranny flush yourself? Do you just suck the fluid out the fill tube and then replace? Rinse/repeat? Or do you have to drop the pan and really clean things out?

I don't do anything myself ....especially on my R, I take it in and have preventive maintenance done.
