Default ABS Light on internittently

Looking at a used S60. 2001, under 60K miles. Automatic. No Turbo. Seems like the only obvious problem is the ABS light. Dealer says it was reset and now comes on intermittently. No idea how accurate that description is. Don't really have a reason to trust the guy.

My question: what have you all seen as common causes? I am trying to figure out 'likely' approximate costs.

For my garage ability, fairly capable shadetree. For instance, plan to do the timing belt on my own first thing if we purchase. Not much more more in depth than that.

Thanks for any input / ideas / degree of difficulty to fix / $$$

Most common failure is the ABS control unit (mounted on the pump) - very rarely is it a speed sensor from what we see. Factory units are pricey - but there are aftermarket alternatives.

Thanks. Found this video so it looks doable:

Some of the prices seem like they are reasonable too on a quick ebay search (NOT the $800 for a new oem!)

So to accurately diagnose, is it pretty much always this will be the problem? Does it shoot an error code?
