add grease to CV through axle bolt?
I've been trying to locate the source of a front end vibration. After replacing tires and a few suspension components that are worn anyways, I found there is a hole size of a child's fingernail in my passenger outer CV boot. Some grease is seen on the steering knuckle where the strut is bolted. It doesn't click, but I'm noticing some rumbling sounds at speed. I'm a little to drive my commute in it since it's 80 miles a day on the freeway.
I have parts ordered that's coming in 2 days, but I'm wondering if in the meantime I can add some grease without taking the boot apart. Does anyone know if the axle bolt goes through to the housing so I can add some grease through there? I doubt just shoving grease into the boot is useful since it'll just sit outside the joint.

There is no need to add grease if the axles are going to be soon replaced. The joint can take a beat without grease, not much, but surely more than just a few days. The grease stays inside the CV joint, it's just that it starts to rust which causes wear. You can use a syringe with a plastic tube in doubt.

Yes, I did use a syringe with a plastic tube and put in about 2 oz through the bolt hole. I have 80 mile drive at 70 mph daily so I wanted to eek out its last bit of life because we had huge rain here the other day and water probably got in. The sound and vibration felt worse than the previous day so that's why I wanted to replenish the grease even if for 2 days.
