Default AIr Temperature Sensor Code

Recently, when I started my 2006 S60 2.5, it stalled. Upon restart my CEL light came on and produced a code for malfunctioning air temperature sensor. This is not the sensor that registers outside air temperature for the climate control system or the dashboard display. This is the sensor that governs fuel leaness or richness.

My question is where is this sensor located? Is it part of the MAF or is it a separate part?

I have a 2003 S60 2.4T and got the check engine light for ambient air sensor. At the volvo maintenance shop , the tech said it is located in the exterior drivers mirror. I have research the part and for my VIN , it cost like $19. The dealership estimated it at $250! The tech said that it has a baseline temperature that it defaults to when it is broken. It should not be a problem unless you are in extreme temperatures.

The intake ait temp sensor is located in the intercooler piping from the IC to the intake manifold. IIRC it doubles as the boost pressure sensor also. Wouldn't hurt to verify the part number and buy it from Tascaparts.com and install it your self. It's an easy job to do in your driveway.

Oops is this the same thing that is linked to the "ambient air temperature" code? I am not a car person, that's just what the Volvo place said.

It's a completely different sensor. The ambient air temp sensor gives you the reading in your dash like you mentioned in your first post. The intake air temp sensor monitors the temps of the air right before it goes into the intake manifold.
