Default Airbags

I recently put quite a bit of money into my 2001 S 60 T's undercarriage (I had been neglecting maintenance). I need to put a little more in, but don't want to if I am going to have to pay a lot of money for SRS inspection. This is because I recently noticed on the inside of the back passenger door that the airbags are supposed to be inspected/checked (I think that's what it said) by April 2011. Who does this? Does an indicator come on when this is required? Is this something I need to pay someone to do or can I just get the code reset by my local mechanic? The airbags have never been deployed as I have never been in a major accident with the car.
Thanks in advance for your help with these questions.

Interesting question. Volvo says to do it. Is it needed or CYA? Mercedes, at least in older modes with airbags, also said to do it. But, I have seen GM documents showing 20+ year old airbags work just fine. GM, Ford, Chrysler, and to my knowledge, the Japanese makers, don't have this 10 year inspect/replace mandate.

Once you see how expensive airbag replacement is, I'm guessing you'll let your wallet vote. If its really needed, 10 year old Volvos will have no resale value.

Can't answer your question specifically, but there has to be a way to reset any warning that goes off as what would they do in a crash repair scenario? I seem to recall seeing some electronic tool in the back of Car & Driver or some other car mag that said it can reset airbag warning signals.
