AM radio reception
OK. It's the wifes car.
I had to trade cars with the wife and the AM radio reception is horrible. BAD static from under any obstructions. Marginal loss of signal just driving around.
1. Has anyone improved the OEM/stock radio reception.
2. Is the satellite antenna connection accessible. And is it the only help for the AM radio?
Since the video screen is integrated into the console buttons, is there a plug and play replacement?
What alternatives have you replaced the radio with?

AM always has a problem with obstructions due to its frequency (ie dropouts going under a highway bridge). That said you may have an issue with your AM antenna's amp which I believe may be a separate component in your year. something worth googling. Satellite radio is whole different band - if your factory radio doesn't support Sirius etc you can probably find another Volvo head unit that does or go after market. I also like to shop web sites like Crutchfields just to see what's available aftermarket for a given model/year.
I understand the AM obstruction science. My previous life in comm engineering is still loosely with me, as is the Sat reception.
My other cars and trucks are/were much better at reception in AM.
My S60 came with the "pre wire" option installed for NAV, but did not have the NAV installed as OEM.
My revised questions are:
Where is the antenna hook in to the radio?
Because the radio/system is computer controlled and multi pieced, is there an upgrade out there.
Crutchfield has none "compatible" with the 2012 S60.
My Google search brings up two other (never heard of) companies with improved systems, but are not compatible with 2012 S60.
The Volvo back up camera $800? is ridiculous. The Nav add on is equally as stupid in price.
Has anyone modified the OEM Radio successfully. Mine is the 1 CD middle grade system
