Default Any chance of saving money on new key fob

Just bought a 2006 S60. From searching the forums it looks like the $400 my dealer quoted me for a new key/fob combo is normal. I got two with the certified pre owned car but we have three drivers so i need one more. Is there any place but the dealer to get one bought, cut and programmed or is this just a bite the $400 bullet situation?

No. The dealer has you by the *****. They are the only people who can code the key and remote. You need the code that comes with the key or remote to code it to the car and seeing as Volvo are the only people who supply the keys and remote with the code and they have the software to code it they have the market cornered. I Know that is not what you want to hear but there really is no way around it. I suggest you ring round various dealers and try to get the price down for the key and remote and get it coded locally. You would be suprised at the difference in prices between dealers.

You could consider doing what I did..

I got my key fob from http://www.volvowholesaleparts.com/p...&subcat1=99265 for about $70 or $80 then carried it into the dealer to be coded for $30. I'm not sure if they still sell the fobs but you could also give www.eeuroparts.com a call and they could probably custom order you one...

Next, I was lucky enough to pick up a new volvo key blank on ebay for $4 and then carried that into the dealer to cut for $30...

Total cost in my case worked out to about $150 for the new key and remote fob..

You can get key fobs for less than $50 on ebay, take them to the dealer and have them coded. Use your charm to get the price from the dealer to code (10 minutes tops), under $40.

Or just tell the third driver (more than likely a child I am guessing), you use the old fashioned way of entering a car by using the key.

If your talking about second hand fobs from Ebay they wont work unless you get the code that is on the bag it came in brand new from the dealer as you need that to code it to the car. You can not code a key or a fob without the code that comes with it. Second hand ones are only good for spares.
