Default AWD 2007 S60 not working?

I just bought this vehicle this summer 2007.I tried the AWD in the snow a month ago and I could hear the back wheels engage as I spun the front tires and now i went in the snow and ice today and I can see that it does not work now.I was a vehicle tech in the Forces but do not know much about this ,except it has sensors to make it come on?Could it be a fuse or sensor gone?
Thanks

Could either be the fuse or DEM that failed. It could also be the angle gear/spinal gear has been stripped. Did you notice any noises when the AWD failed? Check the fuses to see if that is the problem. If not you might need to take it into a shop to have the issue diagnosed.

hello , probably the connecting sleeve from gearbox to angle gear is the problem,or a faulty pressure sensor inside dem as
friend mad mat said before

I guess it seems to be working now.I did a test in my garage with it on stands and went threw all the tests a guy told me to do .All the wheels were spining when it was in the air.i actually tried to hold the back wheel with gloves as my wife slowly gave it gas and I could not hold the back wheel.Maybe in the driveway it was so slushy it would not grab. But my wife said she only saw the front wheels spin?I got stuck and maybe they did not work that day?Well it snowned today and the back wheels work as my wife drives it and told me she saw the snow come up from the back as she gave it a shot of gas.So how do they actually work?Only one tire will spin at the back or do they spin at all?

S60 is equipped with TRACS so it will apply the ABS brakes to the wheel that is spinning more to force the other side to spin. (LEFT to RIGHT) You will hear the ABS motor buzzing when on the throttle and its very slippy out.

The wheel on the opposite side could be spinning more due to TRACS and you just didnt see the wheel on your side spin.

The AWD (rear wheels) is suppose to engage when the front wheel spins 1/4 turn more than the rear wheel, usually the orange triangle on the dash will light up too.

I think the rear diff is limited slip aswell so only one side may spin.

The fuse for the AWD is located in the trunk on the left side i believe.

I've had to replace the rear diff on my car and I'm glad to have an AWD this winter, it has gotten me through some messy driveways with just all-season tires. Doing snow drifts is fun too!
