Take a 6"-9" long 1/4 inch extension and line it up with that socket the best you can and then hit the crap out of that with a hammer. It will drive the cv join out of the flange.

I will try your method and let you know. At least now I know where and how to hit it for it to come out and hopefully not hurt anything
