Talking Buying 2005 S60R today!

Been a fan of Volvos for a while ever since my Dad first had a 240 turbo back in the 80's. Recently sold my old commuter car (Nissan Sentra) and wanted a decent upgrade. Found this beauty a few days ago and will be buying it today.

It's definitely been well taken care of as I test drove it yesterday. I was able to talk the seller down by $1000 which put the cost just under KBB value for a "very good" condition.

Since this is my first Volvo and first turbo based car, I am looking for some advice or words of wisdom. First, are these cars easy to work on? I am pretty mechanically inclined and like to work on my own cars. Should I find a Volvo dealer or Volvo specialist in my area to do a full inspection?

Any helpful advice is appreciated and hope to frequent these forums. I'll post some pictures after the sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

Would love to see some pictures as the link has been deleted... Does it come with an R-Design flip key? Always loved those. I'm not sure about whether the S60R's are easy to work on but I would go to a genuine Volvo dealer for a full inspection just to see what the previous owner had damaged or whatever. The turbo will fly, I'm sure you've already experienced that! If there's not a second key go and chase the owner up now because sometimes they say 'I'll mail it to you' and it may never come.

Anyway, I hope you like your new car! I would love a Flash Green S60R or a black one.

Brought her home yesterday afternoon! What a thrilling ride. I love everything about the car. The interior is a bit squeaky, but the seats....oh....the seats, SOOO COMFY!

Here are some pictures I took:

I'm not in a hurry to do any mods, but I think an IPD sway bar and TCV may be on the first on the list. I think it needs a new battery (easy fix), but plan to get it inspected by my local Volvo shop. I only got the 1 flip key, but it doesn't say R Design. The owner I got it from was really cool and says he'll send me the other key when he finds it. I am not holding out hope, but who knows...

Since the CL post was removed, I was able to pick up this beauty for $7500 with 102k miles. I can see a timing belt and tensioner in my future...

I would do the timing belt right now.

The belt has to be replaced at 105k miles, so you are right there. However, given the car has probably seen spirited driving more than others, the belt will be more worn than the average belt at this mileage.

You can change it by yourself, it's a very DIY job and there's a good video on Youtube about it. Just did mine last night in about 5 hours - going slowly, it really is not a messy job. 100$ in parts from Ebay.

I would also check the pvc hoses and system unless it has been replaced Possible Flame trap/PCV. Need a little help.

Timing belt is due at 120k, not 105k.

Sounds good! The pictures look great too! If you really want, you can order the R-DESIGN plate for the back of the key. I was looking to order it myself because I got an old XC90 key from the dealer - I collect keys (weird obsession). The XC90 key didn't have a back, so I looked for it online and I found a part number as well as a Volvo parts website.

The website which I had the part number from has now been shut, but it has 'merged' to a new domain. I couldn't search for it on the part lookup, but the part number is 30667089 if that helps.

Good luck! Love the photos too.
