I am getting a message saying that my alarm has been activated pretty much whenever I unlock and start the car. Also, occasionally I get the alarm service needed message.

I really don't want to take it in to get it serviced right now. Also I don't really want to try and replace the siren unit myself. Is there a way to deactivate the alarm for a while until I get around to getting it fixed?

There is a thread over @ matthewsvolvosite that shows how to change a battery for an 01 S80. The placement of the alarm could be in the same spot as ur 05. Battery leak on the alarm causes short circuit and affects the moonroof and some other elec'l components. Look for the thread "2001 S80 T6 Siren Module replacement/repair." Disabling it could be a diff story though, u may have to bring to dealer and have ur ECM reprogrammed for a few? $$$$$$$$$$$

 

Thanks, I was hoping there was a fuse I could just pull in the meantime that would turn off the alarm system but leave everything else operational

 

Am not sure about the fuse for the alarm but look in the fuse box at the left hand corner of the dash and read the description of fuse placement at the back of the cover.

 

I thought I would update this just in case anyone was searching for this problem. Sure enough the alarm siren unit is dead. The dealer will install a new one. It'll cost just under $400. Sigh.

I know I could do it myself an order the module on line and probably save $100 or so, but time is money and I'd probably screw up something else.

In the meantime I got to drive the S40 2.4T loaner. I found it pretty disappointing.

 

google siren module and you should see some foreign parts dealers pop up and the module is from around $170-$200 follow the instruction from the matthews website on how to chang the module it really is quite easy after pulling the right front tire.....why pay $400 when you can save yourself some money....JMO! dealer part # is 9452709 and the dealer price is around $232 at least it is here is Delaware!!!! or go here:http://www.volvowholesaleparts.com/p...?siteid=213784 and put in the part # above.....the part is only $182.30 or here: http://www.myvolvopartsonline.com/pa...&siteid=215507 the part is only $177.86 good luck

 

Thanks for the suggestion. I did get it done at the dealer ship. But I hadn't realized what a great resource for repairs mathewsvolvo site is. I'll be checking there first next time.

My problem is not with siren but security lights that turn on and keep flashing on their own every couple of hours. My car is 2002 S80, and I can't pay 100s of dollars to dealer. Any one here knows how to disconnect the damn security system (permanently)?

 

Does simply removing the failed module (without replacing it) cause any headaches like vehicle not starting or running?
