Default Can Towing a Caravan Damage your Gearbox or Engine ?

Have purchased a Volvo S60 D5 (03)manual with a Towbar. I know that it has been towing a caravan and it has now done 91K.
The gear change becomes sticky sometimes whilst driving and can require a bit of extra force to get it out of gear, but not always.

Could this have been damaged by towing a caravan? or are we just looking at a linkage problem.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you pulled a bit and have 91,000 miles on a manual which pulled, I really would not be surprised the clutch slave cilnder is going bye bye. Have it checked, it may simply be worn and not being able to disengage the clutch completely.

Eventually it will all worn out and you'll be stuck in a given gear or you will end up damaging your gearbox. And then the repair will be much costlier.

What type of caravan are we talking about? I think the D5 engine can pull 2 tons (braked). I suppose the caravan pulling was only a portion of the 91K (miles? km?). Judging by your use of the word whilst, I suppose you are British, I think you guys are slowly switching to kilometers, am I right?

I had a manual Chevy S10 which I used to pull trailers and haul stuff like hay and dirt bikes and eventually the clutch slave gave.
