Default changing engine coolant

I have on 01 s60 and with the cold weather now I've noticed that the temp. gauge is one notch lower than where it has always been when the car is fully warm. Should I do a coolant change/flush? what type of coolant is best for this model?

Cheers

Need more information on mileage. I would only do it if it looked discolored or you were at a mileage that Volvo suggested it be done.

01 with 163K KM.

It's been running cold and taking longer to warm up. It was -5 the other day and the car took a while to warm up but then once I got on the highway it actually cooled down to about a 1/4 on the guage before gradually warming back up.

During the summer my guage is at 1/2 but it rarely gets there these days and we havent really hit subzero temps yet.

Should I change the thermostat and do a coolant flush?

Do I need to reset/disconnect the battery after a thermostat change?

Car runs fine otherwise....revs high for a 30-60sec on cold start but that comes down.

cheers

The coolant should be changed the prevent corrosion. It generally would not affect the warmup.

The thermostat should be changed because it is stuck open. The car will be hard to warm up.

No need todisconnect the battery.

Changed the thermo, which took all of five minutes to do and did a drain and fill. Problem solved.
