Default Check engine light is on after replacing O2 sensor on my 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD.

I have a 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T awd. Check engine light is on. Went to local parts dealer and they put it on a obd2 reader and said my #1 O2 sensor needed to be replaced. I replaced it. Had the battery disconnected while installing the sensor. Started the car and had no check engine light. Drove around as told to do. Everything was great until I started the car again because the check engine light came back on. I can disconnect the battery again but the same thing will happen again, check engine light will go off until I turn the car off and restart it, the check engine light comes on in a short time. Was told I needed to reset the code using obd2 scanner. The auto parts stores won't reset it. Borrowed a obd2 scanner but it will not link to the cars system. Any suggestions? Is there a special type of obd2 reader I should be using?
