Question Clunk / Pop going from park to reverse; o6R w/ auto transmission

Wife came in today saying that the R was in the garage and when she went from park to reverse, there was a "clunk" and then the car hesitated a bit before it started to roll backwards.

I've noticed that there's a clunk sound on it when going from a parked position to drive as well as reverse. This is the only time that it makes any noise, which eliminates the CV's...

Thoughts? I've hit up the search which leads me to wonder about the "axle ping" but this seems to only be while in motion where as this only makes noise when the car has been sitting and is being put into motion.

Thoughts?

Car Info:
o6 S6oR, auto trans, and about 57k on the clock.

Default Hi

The way you describe the problem: “when she went from park to reverse, there was a "clunk" and then the car hesitated a bit before it started to roll backwards” it looks like the car has a transmission problem. The “clunk” noise can come from different parts of powertrain, mounts, subframe, suspension etc, but hesitation is related with the transmission control system operation, I think. It is an internal fluid leak, a faulty solenoid or a mechanical part this is hard to say without running few diagnostic procedures. Better consult a transmission shop.

You might want to check the motor mounts too.
