2001 Volvo S60, when I hold the odometer reset button I get the code "42". Also, the check engine light is on along with the message "emissions system service required". No change in the driving characteristics of the car however. Any ideas what it could be?

 

That is not a fault code. You can't read them without a code reader or scanner.
