Dead
I'm not really posting this looking for advice, but if anyone will just chip something in and maybe tell me what to expect I'll appreciate it. So I'm cruising in town today, going 35 MPH. All of the sudden the RPM drops a tad and it simply turns off as if I turned the key. So I'm lucky enough to coast into a parking lot. I try to start again and it just cranks over and over. It will crank all day long. I wonder (hope) my fuel gauge is lying about there being 1/4 tank of gas so I put more in. No change. I beat on the gas tank and no effect. I also checked and fuel still squirts out of the fuel rail, if that means anything. I, personally, have no clue where to even begin so I'm towing it to my mechanic later. Sound familiar to anyone?
As a sidebar, since I've had this car, I've begun to lose faith in post-Ford Volvos.

That's what I figured. I was looking at the fuel pump recall for these cars but it says Arizona and Nevada only. Is that the case? So what do ya think I can expect, $400?
Could be a timing belt also. Not long ago I was in a friends car and it did the same thing. No audible crunch of metal or interference. Just shut off and silently coasted to a stop. It was not a volvo but did have an interference engine. He spent 2500 bucks to fix it. I hope it is not the case.
Well the timing belt is in tact and tension is fine. I called Volvo and they said my car is eligible for the extended warranty on the fuel pump, which is 10 years/150,000. We'll see!
Well I got my car in to my mechanic two days ago. I called him today for an update and he said all he's found out so far is that the fuel pressure and components are good. It doesn't have any spark. He also mentioned that he was looking at the fuses and found a blown ABS fuse. He replaced it and it blew right away.
So that's all I know as of yet.

Another update. Mechanic calls today and said he had it hooked up to the computer and whatnot. Found a bad relay. Replaced it but it still won't run. After that his computer totally crashed and he's lost everything. Tells me I need to take it to the dealer.[:@] Thankfully he's not going to charge me for his time.
The dealership just called me this morning. They say the power wire(s) for the coils has corroded and shorted out. He also said the spark plugs are fuel fouled. Cost for this stuff is $400. If that gets it running again, so be it.
