Smile Do you HAVE to warm up your Volvo in the winter?

Its about 36 degrees here now. Yesterday when I was leaving work, I noticed there was this LOUD whining noise. While accelerating the car would almost seem like its dragging. The RPM would goto 3, jump back down, then slowly climb back up to 3, jump back down. This would go on for awhile until the car seemed like it warmed up.....

Did this issue happen because I didnt let it warm up long enough? If I let the car warm up for 30 minutes in the morning, I have absolutely no issues. But you know how it is after work, your ready to GO, so sitting in the parking lot letting the car warm up just isnt what you feel like going lol.

A similar thing happens in my car.

When I asked the dealership about it, they told me that it was a normal process of warming the car up. Apparently when it's cold, the engine will rev a little higher to help it reach operating temperature.

30 min does seem like a long time for it to warm up, to me. My S60 generally reached normal temps within a few minutes.

when cold (even sometimes if its rly early morning during the summer) the rpm's shoot up near 2k-3k and after a minute they settle back down to 1k and when the car warms up a little till idle like normal

I never NEVER drive a car till its at least up 1/8th to its operating temp (if you can wait till its halfway at least) then I'm really easy on it till it's to its full temp it really saves a lot of wear on your engine especially in cold weather since there isn't very good oil flow

if you MUST drive off within the 5 or 6 minutes it takes to start warming up then at very least wait till the rpm's settle a little should take no more than 30 seconds
