drive train noise
Bought an '01 S60 this past summer. Now winter & first time in snow. When the wheels started spinning on the ice- snow, a noise started from the front end. A metallic squeel noise...kinda like the noise from a very worn brake pad on the rotor. (checked the brakes, seems like plenty of pads left). Noise continues and is only detectable when on ice'y roads when wheel slippage is happening...otherwise on dry road...no noise.
However, now while driving now on dry roads, there also seems like there is now lots of drag when de-accelerating. I raised the car and all wheels rotate fine. Have not had this drag condition before. STC switch on or off makes no difference. Any ideas...did spinning the tires in the snow cause a transmission issue?
Thanx for any help!

I was hoping to find a thread like this.. I had the SAME problem this morning on the way to work. The same noise, everything. I know my pads and rotors are fine though because they were all just replaced. Hopefully someone else chimes in on this as well. Im hoping its a simple silly problem though because I have about 3 weeks left on my warranty if its a serious problem.

I found this to be interesting...

I find it hard to believe if it were wheel bearings that I would just now notice it in the snow. Another thread suggested something like water/snow splashing on the belts causing noise.. but doesnt sound like my metal grinding noise. This is an odd one for sure. On the way home from work Im wondering if itll do the same thing again.
