RE: Drivetrain Problem
Hi,
That is a symptom commonfor part-time AWD system, called "Tight Corner Braking Effect". In severe cases, the engine stalls.
There's not much you can do, as it is one of the characteristics on part-time AWD systems.
>Also will occasionally lunge forward at shutdown
This one I have no clue. If there is a deposit in the combustion chamber, which is kept red-hot, it could cause what is known as "Dieseling" or "Run-on", means the engine keeps going for a few seconds after shutdown. However, I am not sure if this is the problem you're having.
Wait till other S60 experts, or Moderator Tech reply.
Sorry I couldn't help you much.

RE: Drivetrain Problem
My wife has a 2002 S60 with the exact same problem as you are describing, it started at approx 20k miles and has been to the dealer for this problem 7 times, with no fix. Now that the car is past the warranty period all of a sudden they are able to duplicate the problem, and guess what, it is going to be $3200 just for the parts. Does anyone know of a good Volvo repair shop in the Denver CO area?
I called the Volvo customer relations line and spoke to a lady that was really very snotty to me, and a file was opened. I am prepairing to just get it fixed at my expense.

RE: Drivetrain Problem
They ended up replacing the entire rear differential. Didn't get a chance to speak to the shop forman to find out the exact failure with the diff. Covered under extended warranty so I guess this one worked out to my advantage.

My 2002 S60 AWD is binding up on sharp turns. Rear tires want to hop and it causes a good load on the engine. Also will occasionally lunge forward at shutdown. Suspect drivetrain issues. Any help would be appreciated.
