Default ECM overheating?

Hi,

My wife was driving and all the gauges stop working and no power windows. 2004 S60, non turbo, 2.4. She got it home and I shut it off and restarted it. All gauges back to normal and windows. I was told ECM overheating. And should be replaced, if this is true, what prevents the new one from overheating? Also was told could be Dimm ( I don't know what that is). The outside temp at the time was about 87 degress and she had a/c on. If that matters, I don't know. Does anybody know what would be the best approach to this issue would. Oh, and there is a message for SRS now, something about being urgent.

Thank You All
And Have A Great Holiday
Richard

Told my wife she should have bought a 240
like I have....LOL

I couldn't imagine the ECM over heating. Are there any CEL's?
Wouldn't hurt to check to see if the hose is still connected to the ECM box that brings in fresh air.

Just on the off chance, how's the battery in the car? These cars can have all kinds of electronic glitches when the battery is near the end of its life.

Not a problem.
What about the alternator? Just thinking of the things I'd be looking at. Where there any check engine lights that came on?

Who told you the ECM was overheating and did they give you a reason as to why it was overheating? If there's an underlying cause I'd look at fixing that before you were to buy a new ECM as they are not cheap by any means.

The ECM is very expensive and I would really look to rule some other things out first.

In case you do need a new CEM the MSRP is $1,236 but Tasca (Volvo dealer in Seekonk, MA that has an online retail business) has them for $938.28. I don't know if that includes the software or if that's just the hardware. You'll have to provide them your VIN and probably proof of ownership for them to program a new ECM.
