Default Engine Failure in S60

Hello,
I have a 2015 S60 with the drive E engine that I bought new from the volvo dealership. It does not have an oil dipstick or any way for you to check oil levels. The computer comes on and tells you oil level low or time to change the oil. Everything I was told in the beginning, and what I've read in the manual, is oil change every 10,000 miles. My car has 43,000 miles. It was burning through oil very quickly and I took it to the dealership 3 times before they decided that the engine needs to be completely replaced. It is currently in the shop awaiting the new engine. The service guy at the dealership is telling me it is my fault because I didn't get the oil changed every 5,000 miles. Luckily this is still under warranty and volvo is paying for it, but they will not offer an additional warranty on the new engine. Obviously 10K seems like a long time to go in between oil changes, but I've never had a new car so trusted that information. I'm curious to see what other people's experiences have been. What have you been told about frequency of oil changes? Anybody else needed engine replacements? Thanks
