Default Engine Rebuild or Engine Replace? Small budget.

2015 Volvo V60 2.0 Premier Plus 145k miles. I have been dealing with excessive oil consumption since I bought it at 90k. Dealer I am sure knew about it but did not disclose. I was unaware of how common it was. I recently had a misfire in cylinder 3 and after a compression test it has 0 compression. I am not sure what the cause exactly is but my research tells me its valve related. The oil burning, excessive carbon build up all probably led to this. I have worked on my cars to the extent of timing belts but never rebuilt an engine. The internet does not have lots of information/videos on how to do this. The b4204t11 engine that's in it does not have lots of tutorials period. I am not sure I could afford a used engine as I have been out of work due to this and my finances are dwindling. I am forced to fix it. I feel its the cheapest option I have. If anyone has resource information, video links, parts list... I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

I have heard (and seen) of the "new (2015+)" stressed 4 cylinders burning valves. Typically valve jobs are not that hard (for me having done them for 40+ years) - but not that easy to DIY. So tread carefully and don't make your existing car worth less than it is. (if you take it apart to where it won't run at all it be be worth scrap value. If it still runs a potential buyer will be able to make sure it only needs a valve job and the trans and ac and other stuff still works)

I understand you have financial problems - but if you take this car apart and attempt a very difficult job and are not able to afford the special tools, machine work, parts, and stuff - you will turn your existing possibly sell-able car into scrap metal.

If you could find the free copy of the stolen and hacked VIDA 2014D (that's easily found free on the internet) - that will give you parts, repair procedures, and everything you need. But a head job on a new 4 cylinder Volvo is nothing like the Honda you worked on 10 years ago - tread carefully.

Good luck

Thank you for responding with solid advice. I am in the process of downloading VIDA. I understand it is much more involved than my hondas of old. I just am in a tight spot. I got myself into it so I have no one to blame but me. I couldn't afford to get out of my loan with selling the car as is. I have not hurt my credit just yet and having my car repossessed would change that. I looked to get an expensive car to return to work but the market for used cars here in Austin are outrageous. I would likely get a 200k plus mile car that would need work too. The volvo has a lot of miles but the rest of the car is in good shape. My plan is to do most of the work and call a reputable mobile mechanic that might be able to help during the most challenging parts. Don't laugh.... but I do need the good luck part.

I have been looking on ebay for a used engine. I have the B4204T11 and can find none that say they are for the 2015 V60. All the B4204T11 engines say they will not work for a 2015 only 2016-2018.

@hoonk Would the B4204T11 from a 2016/2017 work in my Volvo? or a B4204T12 from an S60?
