Default Evap system

Hi all I have a little problem and I have done some reading but have not come up with an answer yet so here goes, Had a p0455 large leak show up on my car so I did a evap smoke test on a 2001 s60 Volvo non turbo, and the smoke was coming out of a 1 1/2 round 3" long, with a little nipple on it object at the right rear just in front of the back bumper and behind the gas filler tube. Does anyone know what this part is and should I just plug it off? I know when you do a evap smoke test there is not suppose to be any smoke coming out anywhere. I have looked at a few EVAP diagrams and it is hooked to a hose coming from the shutoff valve next to the charcoal canister Could this be the air filter or called air cleaner. Dose this mean that the shutoff valve is bad or is there suppose to be a hose hooked up to the air cleaner were the smoke was all coming out. I'm just wondering if I had started the Volvo up would the shutoff closed, stopping the smoke from coming out of the little round object at the rear of the car? A month ago I put on a new purge valve that was next to my radiator on the drivers side.
I would go to a Volvo mechanic but the closest one is 200 mi. from me. The mechanic around here were I live, do not know much about Volvos.

That's a vent, you need to plug it when smoke testing. Do not leave it plugged though.

Hey thanks for the reply. If I could ask a question please, what would happen if I left that vent plugged.

Why would you do that?

You won't be able to fill your fuel tank without the automatic nozzle shutting off over and over.

Thank you for your answer. Now I know that I will not plug it off. I had red were someone had trouble filling up there car and had to leave the car started to fill it up because the evap canister shut-off valve was stuck. So thanks again, knowledge to learn .
