Fuel Odor - I Suspect the EVAP System
After a full tank of gas and driving just about 10/12 miles, the needle on the fuel gauge is already 2/3 away mm from the full mark. Additionally, I frequently smell gas when the car stops at lights, etc.
I suspect the EVAP system or the connections to the EVAP system. I checked the fuel lines/and the rails. Did not notice any leak.
If available, can someone post a block daigram of the EVAP system? My vehicle is a 1996, Volvo 850 Turbo.
Thanks in advance.

The hose that tech is kind of in a S shape. the diameter one one side is bigger than the other side. One side goes to the tank and the other goes to the big hose that runs with the main fillup hose.
Most probably you will have to drop the fuel tank partially to replace it. I will probably be replacing it tomorrow. I will keep my camera with me to take some photos of the job.
I have the same fuel smell and its worse when the car is still and when the temp outside is above 60 degrees. This is a common problem on the 850.

So I replaced the hose yesterday. I wasnt able to take photos however.
I tried to to get at it wthout dropping the tank, but was not able to because of the positioning of the clamp. And even if I were able to get the clamp, the new hose would have been tough to get on.
I have a 95 turbo wagon so i have the longer version hose. I only lowered the tank a few inches to reach the top.
Overall a easy job. I didnt even have to lift the car to get the tank down.

I seem to have the same problem. I called customer service @ FCP Groton and the fellow there confirmed that we can't find the hose on their website but that they do have it, #3531434 cost of $13.17. That is the part# and price$ he quoted me for my '95 850T...you may want to call and verify for your particular model.

I had a similar problem.
Bad vent hose on top of the tank, only way to fix, drop the tank. Can't even see this hose thru the pump access cover. Eaiser if the tank is almost empty.
If you disconnect the vapor line connection at rear of the engine cradle, and blow into it, you will know if there is a leak.
The hose is larger at one end, so standard hose won't work unless you get creative.
