Hi

My automatic diesel S60 D5 no longer changes gears smoothly. Once the engine is warm the gear change becomes very jerky and not at all smooth. Last week the car lost power suddenly though the engine was still running and the Transmission service required message appeared with a red triangle and this happened immediately after a gear change. The car was towed to the service station where they changed the gearbox oil. This improved the situ for a week but now the abnormal gear change has started again.

Any ideas anyone?

 

sounds like something that happened to my 2002 s60.

i didn't experience it but the owner i bought it from told me the exact same story: gears didn't changed smoothly, an oil change and still nothing.

I bought it from him 3 months ago with a new transmission and a one year warranty(i have the invoice and it costed him about 2000€ in Spain). i heard 02's had bad tranny's but figured if he's took 8 years to break and i got it brand new it should still be a good deal.

hopefully yours is not the same problem.

I think there is a software upgrade for the trannys on 01-02 MY that has to be done. Call your local dealer and inquire. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but browse in other forums and u might find the answer

 

Thanks I'll check with the dealership here. Hopefully I won't have to spend that kind of $omey on replacing the gearbox. Here I'm told it would cost 3 times what you paid for it so I hope the software route helps. Mine is a 2004 model.
