Default film on ***** coming off

My 2005 S60 has a strange plastic like film on the fan and temp control *****. This has got worn and now it is sort of coming off. It looks quite tacky. Has anyone had this issue? I am thinking of just scraping it all off with a small knife.

I have heard from a few others that the film/paint starts to rub off. There are paints made by Duplicolor that will essentially let u redo these. I donno if I would use a knife to the plastic, unless you can live with any possible scratches u make. I would say if you really want it off, take 1000 grit sandpaper and a little soapy water and wetsand it. Then get some of that paint and good as new!

OK, so I wasn't completely nuts!!! I had wondered whether it was some crud from the prev owner and then I kinda got grossed out. But when it started happening on a second know I realized it wasn't.

Can you easily remove the *****?

I am not sure on taking the ***** off.. I'll bump that to someone else! But, here's some paint I have used in the interior ***** and handles of my car and a friends car. http://www.duplicolor.com/products/vinyl.html

You are not alone! I have the same problem. I think that film is suppose to make the ***** less slippery to touch. What I did was to use fantastic household cleaner (corrosive) and just wipe it off with a rag, comes off really easily. The colour under the coating is a different shade so you will notice it when you are done wiping the coating off.
