Fuel Access Door Won't Lock
This is the opposite problem of the recent posting on a 2004 S60 where a fuel access door would not unlock.........the fuel access door on my 2004 S60 will not lock. I've installed a new motor and it still won't lock. If I manually push the motor pin forward to lock the door from inside the trunk and then push the release button on the dashboard, the motor will unlock the door. So, that part of the system works o.k. According to the owner's manual, the door is suppose to lock when you drive the car forward. I checked the fuse and it's o.k. and, as I indicated, the unlock feature works. So, the failure is related to the location for the device that activates the lock feature when the vehicle is driven forward..............anyone know what the problem could be?
Update: The rubber support line from the gas cap which attaches to the fuel access door had broken off from the door mount and this rubber piece sometimes causes the gas access door to not close entirely. The metal tab had broken off the access door. So, yesterday, I installed a wire into the door tab for support and then glued it and the rubber line together using Ruscoe Permanent Clear Sealer.......the door now again securely holds the end of the rubber line going to the gas cap and the door always now closes completely. I just now drove the vehicle around the block and then checked the gas filler door after stopping the vehicle back in my driveway...........it's locked! My guess is that when the gas filler door was not totally closed, it blocked the locking pin from being inserted into the door when the vehicle is driven. Time will tell but it appears that the problem is now fixed from a combination of a new locking motor ($100) and reattaching the rubber line from the gas cap to the access door.
