Default Fuel Level Sensor

A couple weeks back a shop replaced my Fuel tank and fuel pump on my 2002 S60. They ended up destroying part of the fuel pump, but lied to me about this, which is why I got it replaced. I only found out because the paperwork after I paid clearly stated this.

Now that I've learned they've lied once I'm covering my ***. They're looking into a potential warranty part regarding this, two weeks after install.

Last week my car wouldn't start outside of work and I ended up getting it toed. Gas gauge showed half a tank and my cel went on for my crankshaft position sensor.

Come to find out, the tank level was off. I had no gas. I called the company the guy said "It sounds like one of the parts we definitely replaced." I scheduled an appointment to bring it in today for free, for a possible warranty fix. The mechanic I took it to said if they replaced the tank and the fuel pump, they had to have replaced it with a faulty party especially since I had zero problems prior to them doing work to the car regarding fuel level

Today he told me, "We'll see if we replaced the part. If not, you'll need to pay labor and parts to get it fixed."

Considering they ****ed me once, what are the chances this faulty part wasn't replaced by them? What detects the fuel level on an S60? If they deny responsibility, is there any possible way to prove they put in the faulty part, or am I pretty much screwed?

Thanks
