Hi guys - I'm new to working on my 2005 Volvo S60. I don't know a lot about cars, but i'm learning as I go. Tired of paying for expensive shops to take care of a job that I can figure out myself.

Just have one question...if I'm ordering a part, the "fuel pressure regulator," is that the same thing as the fuel pressure sensor/switch on the right side of my engine?

Never mind all - just found my answer! They are NOT the same thing.

And for more confusion, Volvo calls them "Absorbers". For example, on a first-gen S80, you find images of part # 9186278.

 

On the newer models, the fuel pressure sensor is used to regulate the fuel pump and the regulator is used to dampen the changes in pressure level. On older models, the fuel pump is running at one level and the regulator uses the intake vacuum to dampen and retain pressure.

 

Agreed, and to clarify, the (up-to-18-year-old) 1st-gen S80 is a "newer model" in the context of the above comment. (I don't know if this regulator changed between the unfortunate introductory 1999 model year and my 2003.)

 

Can someone please help me locate the fuel pressure damper/regulator on a 2006 Volvo S80? I have the part number 9186278 however can not locate where to replace. Please help!

 

try googling volvo 9186278 - my guess is its either under the fuel rail or under the intake manifold

 

I pulled my VIN and found my motor B5248T2 and the service manual shows it right on the fuel rail... only problem, it's not there nor a place to plug it in. :-(

 

I have a 02 v70xc that will not start. I have 60lbs of fuel pressure when cranking but drops to 0 as soon as you turn off key? Any answers?

 

Same as mine. Immediately I turn the car off, pressure drops to zero in less than 2 minutes. Changed fuel pump only (without assembly), fuel filter, spark plugs. Car still takes a few cranks to start. I am thinking either injectors or pump check valve. Did you get it sorted out? Mine is 2003 S60 2.5T
