Going to see an S60-R 2004 AUTO in a few hours....
There is a 2004 S60-R 2004 Automatic to sell at 15k$cdn (about 12.3k$us) with 140 000kms on it.
I would have prefered Manual but that price is quite good as most 100 000kms cars are 18-24k$cdn.
Are those car know to have problem? I have an S70 1999 manual non-turbo that I like very much but I need to tow a boat once in a while and my S70 is not able to pull it out of the water (spinning).
I have read that 2004 have more problem than 2005, which ones? Any clue?
I plan to have the garage have it checked at volvo before I give the check if I decide to buy it but I need some feedback.
Thanks

hey ice, i test drove an 06 a few weeks back... car is amazing, seriously.. be sure to reduce the traction control, put the active chasis control into advance and stomp on it... quite fun.
anyway seriously, not many people have the r so there is no accurate reliability info available.. i prefer the newer ones though because they changed the tranny and upgraded it to handle the torque, so its rated at 295ft/lbs whereas the 04 and 05 was 258 ft/lbs in 1st and 2nd gear
the 06 model i drove was so so nice, im a tall guy, about 6 foot 4 so there was no room behind me when i was in driving position, but the seats are comfy, the ride is a bit understated so you can stun people with the accel, and well... the brakes are simply phenomenal... enjoy
I know your in canada where everything is overpriced, but no possibility of getting a model with less mileage? if you decide to go with this one, take a look at the tranny fluid, timing and s belt if possible, and look for leaks..

Well I saw some 2005 Manual with 84 000km for 25K$cdn and a 114 000 km for 21k$cdn..
My S70 was reliable exept for the Throtle body which failed but was replaced under waranty last year with a 4 weeks wait.
2006 is out of price range, 35 000$cdn

Biggest problem about owning the s60r (or really any AWD car for that matter) to me. IF you get one flat tire and it can't be repaired, you pretty much have to replace all the tires or risk losing your AWD.
They're good cars. Could have a little less understeer in my opinion, but i guess thats safer than a touch of oversteer.

Well, to reiterate what was said on SS, you don't want to tow a boat out of water in an R. Just because it has AWD, doesn't mean it's a truck.
In any event, with that many miles, make sure the timing belt has been changed, and check the angle gear for seepage. From what I understand a little seepage is fine, but if it look excessive it'll be a problem. And as with any car, make sure it has maintenance records.
