Heater fan
Just wondering about the heater fan arrangement. Does a 2002 S60 have one or two fans?
In the morning when it is cold, when the fan is first started and it is on low, there is a bit of screeching. I know that sound and it is the sound of bearings that are not young. The car has over 200,000 miles on it.
I certainly hope that the fans are not as hard as my Jag fan was to replace. The Jag fan had me laying on the car floor, on my back for a long time.
I certainly hope that it is one fan but because of the dual controlled cabin I think it may be two fans.

I have the same issue, on cold weather. I plan to remove it and to pour some synthetic engine oil on the bearing. I'm interested about a DIY to remove the blower. I think it's only one blower.
Found this youtube vid for replacement on 2000 > 2004 C70. I'm not sure if it is the same for my S60 but if it is the same, replacement looks very easy. I'm guessing an hour from start to finish.

If the bearings are shot, if the brushes are shot any lubricant would only be a bandage and eventually it will get worse. It could take a while but the sound mine makes is a failing blower motor.
For me, once I remove the fan there are probably two choices -
1. Shop for the best price on a new fan
2. Find a low mileage fan out of a junk yard
Hm? There could be a third one. Maybe there are some re-builders out there and I could find a rebuilt one.
Over on the Jag forum over the years there have been people who have re-built the motors themselves. They had to go through a lot of steps to do it and for me, I just bought a low mileage used blower. New blowers for the Jag were $600 and the car had two of them.
