Default HELP! Car starts, chokes, and dies.

I just picked up a 2004 S60 2.5T from the auction and got it fixed up, and its giving me issues! It will crank, start, idle funky for a few moments, choke, and die. I will repeat this process until it starts and drives. Sometimes it will idle fine, and as soon as i put it in gear, it chokes and dies. I have replaced the MAP sensor, got no results, same issue. I have been driving it with the MAP sensor disconnected, which causes the computer to throw a check engine light, otherwise no CEL prior to that. The car goes into limp mode and obviously doesnt run as efficiently. Ive read other posts on this and no one has given a definite solution. I was told unhooking the MAP causes it to bypass the o2 sensor, so im guessing o2 sensor could be issue?
When the motor is running, as soon as i hook up the MAP sensor, the motor dies instantly. It will start up, idle funky, choke, and die. With MAP unhooked, it starts up and drives fine... anybody have any suggestions?? Thanks!

If any of 92 views knew what to tell you, don't you think they would have????

So to get this straight, with the new MAP sensor disconnected the car runs but throws a CEL, and with it connected it just dies?
And have you pulled the front O2 sensor yet?
My first thought was you may have a vacuum leak or your MAF was bad...

Hit up Swedespeed, there is more activity in the S60 section and someone may be able to better help you out. Swedespeed Forums - S60 (2001-2010)

Good luck.

Well i originally found a massive vacuum leak, one of the intercooler pipes had a huge gash in it. I replaced that and it started to drive fine. After a couple of drives it started to do the same thing. I brought it back from a drive and turned the car off. About 5-10 minutes later i needed to repark the car, and as soon as i fired it up, it hit idle choked and died. After a few more attempts the car came to a steady idle, but as soon as I put it in gear, it died.
I replaced the MAF already that didnt do anything. I just replaced the main o2 sensor. Plugged the MAF back in, and it fired up. I got a little choke at idle at first, but it didnt die. I reset the CEL and have been driving the car just fine, and no more choking at start up for 2 days now. I got my fingers crossed, ill keep you all posted.

Also sorry for the confusion, but in my first post i was referring to the MAF as the MAP =/
The MAP sensor is located on a intercooler pipe, and my volvo actually doest have it on the pipe. I have a 2004, was the map sensor relocated to to a different area??

IIRC the MAP and the BPS (boost pressure sensor) is the same sensor. In my S60R is was located under the air box next to the driver side head light on the intercooler pipe.

I hope everything is all fixed for you. But if you come across a rough idle again, check out the vacuum lines that attach to the intake pipe past the MAF for leaks.

that REALLY sounds like a vac leak. perhaps your oil trap cracked (fairly common)
but the fact that a hose had a huge gash in it! tells me its likely not the only one. keep looking and replace your hose clamps as you go, the stock ones begin to leak after 2 or 3 years.

also take some carb cleaner or starter fluid, start the car and spray all around the intake manifold, the fuel injectors, various other vac. spots, if you get a surge or a chug you found a leak. (please keep a fire extinguisher close at hand if you do this! i have set a car on fire before! no joke)

So ive gone and removed and cleaned the ETM like suggested in other threads. When I did that, the car began to run even worse, like it was misfiring. The rpm's at idle were all over the place, and the car would try to die, and i heard a loud popping under the hood. Freaked me out. I was like how could a simple cleaning of the ETM do that? So i went over my work like 3 more times. Bought new clamps for hoses, and while i was under the hood said screw it and replaced the spark plugs. The old ones looked like they may have been stock manufacturer plugs, had Volvo written all over them. Fired the car up and ran smooth as butter! Apparantely it was a misfire the whole time. But i havent been able to see if the problem with the car would happen again. Its been sitting in the driveway for a few days now. THis last Sunday i took a trip to the coast, and on the way their mother nature took a dump on me. Tree branch snapped off, i didnt even see it coming. It completely destroyed the winshield, and dented the roof. Plus left numerous dings and scratches around the car. So back to the body shop it goes!! I'll keep you all posted on the choking issue as soon as i can, i'll let you know if the issue returns. Thanks for all the suggestions!

So i fixed the issue. One or more of my spark plugs were going out. That was the cause of my car randomly choking and dying at idle.
NEW ISSUE: At WOT in the higher rpms my car has a massive loss of power. And it starts to choke and feels like a misfire. At WOT it gets stuck in 3rd and redlines at 80 mph and has no power to go any faster. Until i let off the throttle to 75% it goes into 4th gear and starts accelerating past 80mph. But as soon as i floor it the car starts to shudder and misfire. Basically, its misfiring at WOT under heavy load. You dont feel it so much in the first couple of gears because of how fast it gets through them. But as soon as i hit 3rd, at about 4k rpms i get a bad misfire and major loss in power, at WOT. ANy help??
