Help! With falling inflection...2002 S60 2.4T auto 5 spd geartronic AWD
I'll try to make this short and entertaining...Bought this car on Feb 28 for my marine son who is coming home to the US to be stationed in California. He wants a zippy car for his time stateside.
1. Bad tranny...missing gears and delay shifting from reverse to drive. Fluid change at used car dealer...no good, car back, and sent to indy shop for software, No good. Back to used car dealer for rebuilt tranny from Eriksson in Old Saybrook, Used car dealer did the install themselves for a price.. I could have had a used one for no charge. Decided to get the rebuilt one.
2. Front end issues, clunking, banging on the right, and vibration at highway speeds. Used car dealer replaced the right front strut, but not the top mount, so is still banging. car is still vibrating.
3. Car was with the used car dealer for about 6 weeks until I held their feet to the fire and they did the install of the tranny. Went to pick it up two weeks ago, and insisted that the owner come with me for a test drive. Pointed out the vibration and front end noise. He agreed to the vibration, but said the noise was normal for this car. Then I put my foot into it and the turbo hose popped off. They kept the car for another week, resurfaced the rotors, and replaced the sway bar links. I picked the car up last Friday and still front end issues continued.
4. Brought car to an indy shop today, to have the timing belt and water pump etc replaced, and the called me to let me know that during an aggressive test drive the turbo hose again popped off. They also noted that the vibration was from compromised tires and control arm bushings. They seem to think that there is nothing to do but replace all four tires in a few months. The tires are okay for now but that is the cause of the vibrations.
In summary, They said that the engine/tranny install was "lackadaisical". and that they would try to clean up the mess. I have owned this car for nearly four months and have driven it for about 18 days during that time.
I guess I am asking/warning others about this experience, and it ain't over yet. Thanks for any insight into this kind of situation, and remedies or recourse in Connecticut. Number one son is due back in the US on Saturday...cringe.

get credit from that dealer and get another vehicle from them.
'01-'02 S60 have poor reliability, and they become a major nightmare if it was not well maintained by previous owner.
A car like like this will make you sour on volvos for life
