High Mileage S60 R Worth It?
Hey there I知 very new to volvos and I知 looking at a pretty high mileage S60 R, and I知 just wondering if it would be worth it to switch from my GTI. In terms of high mileage I知 talking 166k miles high. I知 interested in buying the car as a fun daily to do a few modifications to. The seller is asking $6,995 US, and to me that just sounds a little high for a car with that many miles. Any help would be appreciated thank you all.
I've seen S60Rs in the 5-6K to 10K range so asking $7K is not unreasonable provided the condition and maintenance history matches the ask. 166K miles is not all that high (that's 10K a year) for a Volvo but it does mean you need to do a proper inspection for common maintenance items including 1) PCV system health 2) timing belt/accessory belt and tensioner age 3) condition of the shocks (Rs use the 4Cs which are expensive to replace), 4) oil leaks / change interval. 5) transmission fluid. Keep in mind its a 15 Y/O car so bits will be worn - ie hoses, fluids, interior leather etc. I think the two things to do if you are ready to buy are a) see if there's a fully documented maintenance history (if not, lower your offer) and b) make the sale contingent on a professional inspection (ie pay a shop $100-150 to put it on a lift and run a full safety and diagonostics test). This would be on your nickel but better to lose $100 than drop $6500 on a car that needs work.
