How do you know you're turboing?
Hello all,
I just gave my '86 240 (standard transmission) to my little brother and got an '02 s60 2.4T, auto, for myself. I have never driven a turbocharged vehicle before, so I do not really know how to tell when the turbo is "working".
I do know that acceleration is significantly increased over my 240, a 114hp 4-cyl. Acceleration from 75mph to 100mph is quick and effortless. The automatic's shift points are more aggressive than any auto I've *ever* driven -- on WOT it regularly exceeds redline.
But, I'm comparing all this to a nearly 20-year-old vehicle, so I'm not sure what's "turbo" and what's "nice, newer car with 1 more cylinder".
Any information you can give would be helpful, I am very happy to be in a newer vehicle and I love it very much!
Thank you.

You should be able to slightly hear it and feel the extra pull from it. Accelerate very gently from a stop all the way to 60. If you press the pedal easy then the turbo shouldn't kick in.
Then try hard and you should know the difference then.
