how hot is normal...

Default how hot is normal...

hi folks...i just bought a 04 s60 2.5t..runs great...i noticed after the engine reaches normal operating temperature (according to the gauge in the middle) when i lift the hood the upper radiator hose is extremely hot. is this normal for these kinda cars..just wanted to know is this normal..does anyone know if this car is suppose to run hot..any advise would be greatly appreciated....

Considering the thermostat won't open until something in the range of 190F and normal operating temps for the coolant is in the 210 to 220 range, I'd say the hose should be hot! The cooling system is pressurized so the boiling point for 50/50 coolant is somewhere in the 260-270F range.

If the gauge is in the middle, it's fine.
