Default intermittent idle issues

hello again, so my 2004 s60 turbo 2.5 has been having an interesting issue as of today

idle seems rough, more so than normal as well as randomly it pulses and for that moment it is an exceptionally rough idle but only for a moment, it does this off and on hot or cold.

when I unplug my mass airflow sensor (maf) the idle stabilizes and everything's fine no sputtering of any sort. I assume my MAF sensor is bad, I cleaned it and it helped but only marginally, should I just go ahead and replace it? or is there something else i should look at

more info, last week i changed my timing belt and its been running 100% up till this morning when i did that i replaced the pullys, water pump and sparkplugs.

you answered your own question.

if the car idles better with the MAF unplugged, then yes you need a new one.

that's what I had assumed, as I have already ordered one, I'm just waiting for it

I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything like the maf relays, it's hard to believe that an airflow sensor can make such a big difference. I drove the car for an hour today 30 minutes with it plugged in and 30 minutes back with it unplugged all the while with my scanner plugged in. after inspecting the sensor itself I noticed that the glass around the resistor was cracked (don't know how but ehh stuff happens)

thanks for the input though I was just a little leery about spending another 180 on the car as this week I've put in 600 ish and next weekend another 40 to change the oil.

get your money back from autozone and get a new Bosch from eBay.

ok i dident think ebay would be a safe bet but im willing to to anything at this point lol

one thing i wanna mention it that when i have my scanner pluged in and im monitoring then engine rpm every once in a while it will shoot up to 9,000-12,000 rpm obviously this is not shown on my tachometer as it goes up to 8k the needle dosent so much as flinch however every time it does this the car shakes but not everytime does the car shake and the rpm spike. i was thinking maby i should replace the rpm sensor (yet to look up whitch one it is) aswell as the maf
